Usually, I buy my books online from either The Book Depository or Booktopia (an Australian store). The Book Depository offers free shipping world wide, and Booktopia has a flat rate of $6.95 for shipping, which I consider quite affordable.
If you’re a local follower, there are also a lot of great book stores in Perth! Dymocks often has great deals, and some stores, such as Dymocks Joondalup, are quite involved in the local book community, hosting book clubs and events. I also enjoy shopping at New Edition Bookshop, Planet Books, and for second hand books, Elizabeth’s Bookshops.
At the moment, I’m a social media rep for three great stores, all of which have amazing bookish products. You can use my code LAURA10 for 10% off at these shops!
Other than the stores listed above, I also love the following! Please note, all stores are Australian, so if you’re based in another country, shipping may be a bit expensive.
Behind the Pages – perfect for soaps, body lotions, perfumes, and more.
Belle Regalia – book themed jewellery.
Frankly Fictional – bookish candles.
Keeper of the Suns – bookmarks, book sleeves, accessories.
Kool and Co – bookish candles and soaps.
The YA Chronicles – a subscription book box.
Okay this is going to be a long list, but my favourite authors include Becky Albertalli, Leigh Bardugo, Kendare Blake, Sona Charaipotra, Cassandra Clare, Dhonielle Clayton, Sara Douglass, John Green, Nina LaCour, David Levithan, Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff, Sarah J Maas, Melina Marchetta, Melissa Marr, John Marsden, Richelle Mead, Marissa Meyer, Louise O’Neill, Rainbow Rowell, Maggie Stiefvater, Courtney Summers, Elliot Wake, Kiersten White and many, many more . . .
My two favourite series are Harry Potter by JK Rowling and The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater.
My favourite stand alone novel is Looking for Alaska by John Green.
I’m also a big fan of poetry! My favourite poets include Neil Hilborn, Lang Leav, Sylvia Plath, Brenna Twohy and Clementine Von Radics (her collection Mouthful of Forevers is one of the books that has impacted me the most).
I’m working on a more detailed blog post about this, but for now I’ll just say that I take photos with a Canon EOS 550D and process them with the VSCO app on my phone. I definitely don’t think it’s necessary to use a DSLR for bookstagram photos, I just use one because my phone camera takes very poor quality pictures. And the camera I use is at least five years old, so you don’t need anything fancy!
